'Turtle Boy' Has Life Changing Surgery

Didier Montalvo, a six year old from Colombia, has the rare condition called Congenital Melanocytic Nevus which has caused a massive mole growing over 40% of his body to resemble a turtle shell.

Didier's condition has been problematic for him and his family, with superstitious neighbours and residents believing Didier's condition was due to being conceived during an eclipse. They also feared he had been touched by evil forces and prevented Didier from attending school or being baptised.

That's all in the past now for Didier and his family, as the mole was removed by British surgeon Neil Bulstrode, an expert who removes about 40 similar (although much less significant) growths every year.
