In the single greatest example of irony in years, that annoying 50 second 'You wouldn't steal a car..." DVD piracy ad that plays every time you sit down to watch a (legally purchased) movie was caught this week using pirated music.
Dutch composer Melchior Rietveldt composed that now cringe worthy tune for a local film festival after being asked by anti-piracy group Brein, who are funded by Hollywood. A few years later, he got himself a copy of Harry Potter on DVD (why not?) and noticed just how annoying this ad is (and his music in the background.)
Legal estimates put the amount of money Rietveldt is owed at somewhere over $1 million. We have to ask... how could this possibly have taken him so long to discover?
