The event is part of the Drake Relays - an athletics competition held in Iowa every year since the early 1900's. Bonus points for the background music:
The annual Pole Vault In The Mall event (easily the least creative name we've ever seen) held in the Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines, Iowa, looks like it's pretty damn awesome. And despite the gimmick-y feel, the very best American pole vaulters all competed in the event, with the top five5 female pole vaulters and six of the top eight male vaulters in the country competing. Apparently, this passes for Olympic preparation in Iowa.
