Australia's Latest Budget Move: Tax Bacon To Increase Revenues

It sounds too absurd to be true, but in last night's budget, Wayne Swan announced there would be an increase in the pig slaughter levy. Finally, the presence of the Greens in the Senate seems to be making headlines (albeit for amusing reasons.)

While we all salivate over that picture and make time to pick up some fresh bacon on the way home today, those in the pig slaughtering industry will be paying an extra 30 cents a year for the next three years (from July 1) increasing the pig slaughter levy to $2.25 when all is said and done.
